Optimus EPS is Dometic’s advanced electronic steering platform for outboard, inboard and sterndrive boats. It replaces traditional helm connections with precise electronic control, adjustable steering feel and seamless system integration.
Designed for new builds, repowers and retrofits, Optimus EPS combines steer-by-wire technology, Optimus 360 joystick maneuvering and autopilot compatibility in one integrated system.
THREE ARCHITECTURES, ONE SYSTEM
Optimus EPS brings one electronic control philosophy to three drivetrain types, with solutions for new builds, repowers and retrofits — including boats still using mechanical controls.
OUTBOARD ALL-ELECTRIC
Designed for single, twin, triple and quad outboard installations with electronic or mechanical controls and single or multiple helm stations. Suitable for performance boats, center consoles, fishing vessels, RIBs, catamarans, houseboats and pontoons.
INBOARD ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC
Designed for most single and twin inboard boats with up to three helm stations, including cruisers, sportfishing yachts, performance motor yachts and express convertibles.
STERNDRIVE ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC
Designed for most single and twin sterndrive installations, including ski boats, cruisers and sportfishing vessels.
ALL-ELECTRIC STEERING
Dometic steering and control systems include BayStar and SeaStar hydraulic steering for outboard, inboard and sterndrive applications.
Optimus EPS adds advanced steer-by-wire control, speed-adjustable steering feel, Joystick 360 docking and autopilot integration.
NO OIL AT THE HELM
Optimus EPS all-electric actuators replace traditional hydraulic connections at the helm with precise electronic steering control. The range includes solutions for outboards, bass boats, smaller inboards and wake boats.
With no hydraulic hoses or fluid at the dash, steering effort and turns lock-to-lock can respond to boat speed. The system supports NMEA 2000 and plug-and-play integration with compatible Garmin, Simrad and Raymarine autopilots.

ELECTRO-HYDRAULIC STEERING
RUDDERS UNDER COMMAND
For inboard and sterndrive boats, Optimus EPS combines electronic control with smart hydraulic components. EC5810 smart cylinders and the EP1600 on-demand pump provide precise steering while drawing power only when required.
Individual rudder control supports Ackerman and toe-in or toe-out configurations, while a fault-tolerant CAN network, automatic battery management and a color helm display provide system monitoring and control.

OPTIMUS EPS SYSTEM COMPONENTS
Optimus EPS brings the helm, actuators, hydraulic components and electronic controls together as one integrated steering system. Helm-side options include Sport Plus Tilt, Classic Tilt and Rear Mount configurations, along with the Optimus 360 joystick for precise low-speed maneuvering and docking.
